Log Home Fasteners
Log screws or fasteners can be obtained in lengths from six inches to fourteen inches. They are smaller in diameter than lag screws, ranging from one-eighth inch to one-fourth inch in diameter depending on the manufacturer. They are coated to resist the extractives that may be contained in the logs.
They are gaining in popularity because they do not require predrilling. You merely use an adapter in your electric drill to put the log screws into the solid log. This speeds up the log-laying process and requires less work than driving in spikes or predrilling for lag screws.
